We lived in Circle C before we moved from Austin last year and loved it. But if we ever move back to Austin it will be Lakeway to be close to Lake Travis which was one of the best things about living in Austin for us. I don't think it will be a great commute but it sure is beautiful out there.

I'd like to add a question on the area, if I may. I'll be moving back to Austin soon from Raleigh and have decided on Lakeway ISD. I want a neighborhood heavily populated with elementary aged children and wondered if Lake Pointe, Alta Vista or Falconhead would be best. I currently live in a neighborhood with mostly teenagers and have found out the hard way how desirable it is for the kids to be able to just go outside and play with others (as opposed to always having to set up play dates or have myself be the extra playmate). Thanks for any input.

Falconhead off of Falconhead Blvd and RR620 is a well planned community with tons of elementary children. We lived there for about a year and met new families almost every other week with kids attending elementary and/or middle schools.

I personally prefer Falconhead over Alta Vista because of the wider streets, great PGA level golf course and great walkways for those who like to walk or run outdoors. I would highly recommend TaylorWoodrow and Drees Homes in that area (price range 500-700K).

Lake Pointe seems to be attractive to young families since the elementary school is walking distance and the amenity center (pool, playground) is next to the school. Alta Vista has a community pool which seems to draw alot of young families too. Falconhead is a beautiful neighborhood with great golf views but seems to lack amenities for families with small children.

That is a good point. I decided that living closer in was better because 5 days of a short commute during rush hour and a short commute to the lake on weekends was better than 5 days of a long commute during rush hour and a really short commute to the lake on weekends.

On the other hand maybe I would be on the lake everyday if I lived really close.

Lakeway is a wonderful area to live in. It's perfect for families and great schools. Close enough to get everywhere quickly. I looked all over Austin and glad I chose Lakeway.

As far as homes, Falconhead, Hills of Lakeway and Flintrock are good communties. I think Flintrock is a little overpriced, but it is beautiful.

Just stay away from buying a home from Toll Bros. They are the WORST homebuiler. Just google the web for Toll bros problems and you will see tons of websites and blogs with all the problems. It is horrible here in Alta Vista, I live here and I know. I would never wish all these problems unto someone else. Therefore, I'm going to spend my free time warning potential buyers. Buying re-sale, you should be OK, but just get a very good inspector - not anyone remotely connected to Toll.

Lake Pointe is a great neighborhood for letting the kids play outside with the other kids on the street. Plus many of the other kids on the street will be in class with your kids as the school is right in the neighborhood. We just moved out of Lake Pointe and I will really miss being able to walk the kids to and from school and having 6 different classmates just houses away.

We are looking in same area. From what I can find about the Lake Travis ISD Middle & High School, seems like these are really good schools. We have been looking in Lakeway, Bee Cave and Spicewood. I think we have ruled out Spicewood, it's too far out for me. Problems we have been crossing are that most of these homes do not have much of a back yard but the houses are very nice. We have looked at 1 house in Lake Pointe (in our price range, which happens to be much less than $650k) and loved that area. Saw children playing at the pool, riding their bikes, etc. We would like to buy and move there by December. Husband needs a job first; since I would be transferring with my current employer. Only (and major) thing I have not had a chance to check into are the child care facilities available. Anyone know any really nice, good child care facilities?

Default 2 great options

Yes! I live and work in Lakeway. Check out Primrose on Bee Caves Road which is a stone's throw from Lake Pointe and there is also KidsRKids in Lakeway on FM 620.

Lakepointe is a nice family oriented area. You're right - most of the nice homes are placed on compact lots. Some sub-areas of Lakepointe have much more expensive homes on slightly larger lots. Lakepointe Elementary is an excellent school that draws about 100% of its students from Lakepointe. Lake Travis MS is also excellent.

I live in Spicewood and do not think it is too far out - but I live in the Bee Creek area which is closer to Bee Cave.
