Lakeway - Seeking a Starting point.
We are considering a transfer to the area. We have researched Lakeway. Using Lake Travis Middle and High Schools. Also Proximity to Austin, etc.
Confusion starts as Lakeway appears to be a resort community. We would like to live in a less transient neighborhood. Our children are a bit older...so having the playgrounds and activities around younger families are not crucial. Though, having a nice mix of age groups would be great. Flintrock Falls appears nice online.
Any thoughts? Understanding property taxes are high. We would like to stay at 650 or below.
Thanks!

Make sure you are looking at Lake Travis and not Lakeway, or vice versa....

From what I can gather Realtor.com. You can't pull up 'Lake Travis'. Lakeway will give you addresses with Travis schools.
Can you elaborate what you mean about making sure we are in Travis vrs. Lakeway. I am not too familar with the area. Was in the city a few weeks ago...did not have time to investigate further.

Yeah, my wording was rather bad....I assume you are looking for schools in the Lake Travis ISD (which is, reputedly, very good). LTISD covers a pretty good sized area out there, I think, and includes Lakeway. Anyway, I am not sure if 'resort' community is the right description or not...there are a lot of weekend homes out there, but there are a lot of people that live/work from that area, too.

Thank you. Exactly. Lake Travis ISD. Are you aware of any other locations in the Travis ISD area? Neighborhood wise?

No, I am pretty uneducated about that area - I rarely make it out hwy 71 anymore . But I am sure there are some better informed people out here .

I wouldn't consider Lakeway a resort community like, say, maybe Horseshoe Bay is. It has great schools, great shopping, and Lake Travis nearby. I don't think of Lakeway as being populated mainly by those with a more transient lifestyle or primarily vacationers. It has tons of families as well as retirees, empty nesters, etc. From what I've seen it has a great mix of people. And, it has Pao's Mandarin restaurant. Yum

I live in Lakeway. It is most certainly not a resort community, nor is it very transient!
Though we are new to this neighborhood, I've lived not far from here for years and all of my friends have been in Lakeway for 20+ years!
There are people who live on the lake and have boats. Lots of people don't live on the lake also have boats and do the boating thing, so maybe that's why you're thinking its a resort thing...a lot of ads etc. may be geared toward that.
It is an affluent area. People are heavily involved in the schools...pta and the like. Esp. middle and high schools. It's the thing to do! Sports, drama, fundraisers, etc. is all very important. Some people can be snobby about it, and what things they chose to buy for their kids...some are not.
DM me if you have more questions or such.

Hello Mandib,
Great to hear positive feedback on the area. Not knowing too much, did have a sewed impression. Sounds like everything would fit our bill. Minus the snobs!
Thank you for the offer. I may send you a PM soon with more q's! In the meantime. Can you suggest a few neighborhoods. 700K and below. Any newer areas with partially wooded spaced home sites? Might be a tall order. Not ready for a Realtor just yet. Couple a months away.
