Default signed a lease!

Thanks for that map link, Trainwreck20! And jread, I almost, almost went with Timbercreek, but ended up signing a lease on the duplex. I had remembered the rent wrong - it's actually a little more than I'd planned to spend in rent and the most expensive option of them all, but the character of the place, hardwood floors, deck on back and fenced back yard really sold me - plus Timbercreek only had a pretty small top floor unit coming available in the next month and the larger one that was going to be available was in a middle floor. I drove by the duplex last night to see how it was well after dark and the area was very quiet and the sides of the house well lit - so I feel good! Thanks for all your help and feedback!

And if anyone needs a locator, I wholeheartedly recommend Jessica at Austin Cool who totally turned my mind around about apartments after I was about to walk out of their office in anger at the guy who first started talking to me - she actually listened to me and took me to see several places I would have been perfectly happy with. I probably leaned even more toward signing a lease at one of the apartments instead of a duplex (which was what I'd first envisioned getting) just out of gratitude to her!

I love that little street, I think I know which one you're going to be on and it's so close to EVERYTHING and very quiet for being that close to the student jungle. You'll occasionally get some party noise on weekends, I can just about promise that, because you'll be within a couple blocks of student apartments and frat houses, but most of the time it will be quiet. You'll find that it's very easy to get from there to north central Austin (Lamar at 38th, with all the medical facilities and Central Market), the Drag (cheap restaurants, interesting stores and fun people-watching), Lamar and Sixth (Whole Foods, REI, Book People, Waterloo Records) and downtown --- all within 5 minutes drive. Plus you can walk to Pease Park. Good choice!

I've used AustinCool 3 times, each time it's been a different agent. The last one I worked with (might have been Jessica) said "Do you have time to go see one right now?" I said yes, and I rented it on the spot. It's where I live now, and her choice of location for me was so perfect because I'm even happier with this place than I expected. And I'm only paying $540!!! Pretty good, didn't have to deal with sorting through ads in the paper or on Craigslist, she just took me to one spot and I was home. I wish everyone would have it as easy as I did.
