Default Non Smoking?

Hello,
Just wondering about the restaurants in Austin, and if they still have "smoking" and "non smoking" sections? Might sound silly but I've been spoiled in CA with non smoking restaurants.

Not only are the restaurants non-smoking but the bars as well. At least most of the bars - some are still sort of fighting the change.

I think you can still smoke at Bingo parlors, not sure, and there are a few restaurants that have been 'grandfathered' into compliance with the old rules (separate ventillation system) - Trudy's three restaurants all are, I think. They have 'smoke tanks', sort of.

In any of the usual smoking places (pool halls and bars), you might see quite a bit of smoking still, even though it is not legal now. A judge recently ruled that the bar could not be held responsible (i.e fined) for the decisions of its patrons (paraphrasing that, of course )

The state of Texas is considering implementing a statewide ban on indoor smoking just about everywhere other than bingo parlors. Not sure why they're so into smoking and bingo.... kinda quirky, but politicians have motives that are often hard to read.

*note to self --- open bingo hall that serves food, has a full bar and live music... get rich....

Lol...I think that has been tried. I do not think you can sell any alcohol at a bingo parlor (it is all byob). Also, I don't think you are allowed to charge admission, so the live music might draw a huge crowd of bottle toting non-gamblers

Hey everyone - Wish North Carolina was more into the, "Non-Smoking". Moved to the Raleigh area last week from Austin, and already miss being able to eat without smelling some smoke. A few restaurant's have taken the hint, but not nearly enough. Happy breathing!

Better do that soon, because some states are considering outlawing smoking while driving.

There is absolutely no end in sight to the current fad for controlling everyone's behavior. But you know their motto, "If it saves just one life then it's worth it." Ummm..... OK, interesting "logic."

Personally, I think we should just coat everything in styrofoam...that way I can't fall and hurt myself anymore.
