Thanks for the thoughts about property taxes. My brother had warned about this as well. He just got his real estate lic. so I'm hoping he can help us with all the confusing details. I also read another thread that warned about the high utility bills??? We are kind of thinking we might rent first and then buy once we figure out what area we really like. My brother lives in Steiner Ranch and raves about it, but not sure if my husband wants to live that close.

I think they were saying that someone from CA would feel comfortable here because there are so many other Californians in Austin, as well as the fact that Austin is liberal.

I agree with you, though... with the exception of a few areas, California is not all that liberal. You will find that Austin is quite a bit more liberal than Southern Californian suburbia. It is especially extreme if you're talking inland CA areas such as Stockton and Bakersfield, which are just as right-wing, gun-toting and yeehaw as rural Texas.

Default Your right

Thanks for understanding what I was trying to say.
I'm originally from the OC....and most are Republicans there.
Unless your like me and grew up slightly poor...into the Mod & Punk scene.
Now that I'm older , hopefully wiser...and financially stable...I'm still not a Republican !

LOL

He's a real estate agent. So he can help some, but I'm worried that he's putting a positive spin on everything because he want's us out there. They left Cal with better circumstances. They owned a home here, so they were able to buy a nice house in a nice neighborhood. We don't own and our companies have no transfer opportunities in Austin. So we are back to entry level salaries. I just don't want to uproot our children if there is no way we will be able to buy a home there in the next couple of years. What's the point of disrupting them if it's not for something better.
