Atlanta exodus
Been eyeing Austin for a new life change. I've been in Atlanta for several years, and it's a fantastic town of geography and career potential, I but cant take the total round trip of 2-4 hours a day much longer. It's bismal commuting the major artery of North America. The closest to Austin I've been is San Antonio and Chorpus Christi for brief vacations...still havent had a real chance for Austin yet.
Looking to see if we could find rolling hills, large trees, brick home....any particular neighborhoods that may strike your mind to have these elements in the 150-275k range?...or is just flat and bushes that the locals call trees?
How are the commute times from the various counties there?
Any recommended nature reserves to review for hiking and recreation?

Spend some more time on here and you'll get your answers. In short, Austin is much better than Atlanta from what I've read on here. Your price range is low, Texas is cheap in general, but Austin is definitely on the higher end here. For a decent home in a decent neighborhood, you're looking at $200K minimum. Move North, West, or East, and you'll find housing cheaper but you won't be in Austin.

I'll be out in a couple of months from Sandy Springs looking for some of those same things, for the same reasons!

We've got plenty of trees (famous for how many trees we have, in fact) and we're on the skirts of the Hill Country - does that answer those questions? Even east where there's more farmland, there's nice wooded rolling areas. In your price range, with your specs, you might check out Cedar Park/Leander, some areas south, Oak Hill, Georgetown. Commute would depend on where you would be working.
