On that note, I'm not going to drive him around Round Rock or Pflugerville or Cedar Park to look at neighborhoods; rather, as some folks here have suggested, I'll take him to 6th & Red River going north, UTT, ACC, Waterloo, South Lamar, SoCo, etc. We'll stop by Thundercloud Subs for lunch, then Amy's Ice Cream for dessert.

Any other suggestions would be great.
S 1st (north of Oltorf) has some great funky little shops. Off the top of my head:

-End of an Ear
Independent record store specializing in vinyl, experimental and other uncommon music. They also have shows on the weekends. Great place!

-Sticky Fingers
Rock n' Roll Boutique

-Secret Oktober
Punk, Goth and alternative clothing

-Bouldin Creek Coffehouse
This is where most of the hipsters, punks, freaks, artists, musicians and hippies hang out. But not exclusively!

-Mercury Fashion House
Vintage resale shop for men

BTW, I see your coming from Ohio. We just moved to Austin from Cleveland(born and raised) last year. Welcome Buckeye!

Excellent ideas, all! I especially like the Mercury Fashion House as he has a thing for vintage. Making the itinerary now... Thanks!
