Default Wanted: Austin home location advice for family with 2 kids in middle school/

Hello,

I am Jo, an dI am relocating to Austin. It's a long story, but within the past month, my family (me,DH,DD,DS,DS) have decided to accept a job offer and relocate our family to Austin. We don't know much outside of what we have heard from other visitors or past residents, and from our experiences of visiting my sister for the past several years. We have always enjoyed the visits and we have yet to hear anyone say anything negative about Austin and the surrounding areas.

In a nutshell, I was offered a job in central Austin in late June. The offer seemed to come at a good time for our family to relocate and we decided to bite the bullet and move. My children are all going to be in middle school with my twin 11 year old boys starting 6th grade and 13 year old daughter starting 8th. Through a domino effect of if this, then that's .... we have a place to begin our life in Austin. My mother bought a condo in Lakeway that she will eventually move into (once she sells her home in Memphis). My family will be living in the condo starting August 5th. Once we sell our current home (in Memphis) we will buy a new one in Austin.

Here are my questions and inquiries for guidance.....

We are looking for
Good schools
family friendly neighborhoods (maybe neighborhood pool, etc)
something to see (a view... hill country)
something we can afford.. 200 - 300 K price range (we are not wealthy people)
my hubby is a HUGE golfer = loves a golf course
easy transit to Central Austin for work
open floor plans, with high ceilings, nice kitchens, 3 or 4 bedrooms or game room, patios (love to sit outside)
No Fixerupers... (I can't find my screwdriver)
NO zero lot lines - we like people, but we like our space too

Anyone who can give suggestions is VERY appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Jo

You might consider Georgetown or Cedar Park. Perhaps some Southwest areas, as well. I've seen properties that meet your specifications in all those areas. Some parts of Round Rock, as well.

One neighborhood to investigate is Steiner Ranch. We walk to an Exemplary Elementary school, but you said Middle School. Fortunately, we walk to an Exemplary Middle School as well!

Check out: Canyon Ridge MS (broken link)

and: Laura Welch Bush Elem. (broken link)

Also, many choices of lot lines. We are in a neighborhood where it is 15' minimum, and we actually have an 86' wide lot, so we are about 21'+ from each of our neighbors, and still have a 3 car side by side garage. It is nice coming from what I thought was zero lot line central, but it sounds like you've experienced it as well.

Check out Steiner Ranch for more info.

Forgot to mention Oak Hill and Shady Hollow as other possibilities. (Trying to keep in mind that you'll be working in Central Austin.)

Hi BrewZoo5.

Glad to hear you and your family are moving to our great city! There is so much to offer.

Steiner Ranch is a bit further away from downtown in comparison to some other locations that offer you the views and larger lot sizes.

There are a few communities in your price range with average to large lots with views of the hill country, location is more in the South Austin area, 15 - 20 minute drive to downtown Austin. For your husband, there are probably five golf courses within 20 minutes of the area.

There is a good mix of new construction and resale properties in these areas. Feel free to give me a call/send me an e-mail; I'm happy to help offer up any guidance and give you much more detail on neighborhoods that you might like. - Rodney www.txaar.com
