Hi all
What's the best single source of listings for all the live music in Austin? I'd like to find a comprehensive list with (if possible) a description of the band's musical style etc. thanks! ![]() Last edited by southdown; 07-24-2008 at 02:24 PM. |

Have you tried the Austin Chronicle web site? They have pretty much everything playing.

Thanks - Yes I have briefly looked at all the ones I can find - by Googling Austin music what's on etc. There are quite a few and it's hard to know which ones have comprehensive listings - you can't tell what's missing!!!!
I am after some advice from people who have tried and tested and can recommend a good one. Would you recommend the Chronicle as the best and most comprehensive? |

Well, I use the chronicle web site because I believe it is the most complete/comprehensive. However, the interface seems kinda clunky to me. I also use Austin 360, which is basically the Statesman, also seems complete but slightly easier to use.

I think the Chronicle in printed form is the best. You can pick it up every Thursday. It shows all the actual ads from all the clubs and they'll normally list who is playing a month or so in the future as well. Places like Stubb's will put in a full page ad while Emo's and the Mohawk might put in a half page ad. Other smaller venues will put in smaller ads. You can't see these ads on-line (at least I don't think you can).
As far as descriptions of the bands' musical styles, I don't think there is a comprehensive source for that. A lot of the bands playing are from all over the place and not just Austin. Normally, I have to jump on something like MySpace as most bands have a presence on there. You can then listen to a couple of sample tracks. |
