The housing bill awaiting President Bush's approval has a provision to increase the conforming loan limit from $417K to $625K.

Would this proposed increase apply to mortgages in Austin? There is some confusion on whether this only applies to CA and other high priced regions.

My understanding is that it only applies to the top 20 most expensive housing markets (ones where the conforming limit has already been raised as a temporary measure) Austin does not fall into that category and the conforming limit here remains $417,000.

I would not expect conforming loan limits to change for Austin. Sorry.
