Default Moving to Austin in one year

we may be moving to Austin in one year and I am now exploring the areas and neighborhoods. We have lived in cities as well as suburbs and have an 11 year old daughter. My husband would love a golf course and lake setting and I am thinking of a kid setting as well. Question--- is Lake Austin - Lakeway area a kid friendly area and livable? Let me know what anyone thinks about this.
We prefer the south and south west areas.
Thank you so much and I look forward to the responses.

Lakeway is on Lake Travis, not Lake Austin. Which one are you looking at? They are both great areas, but the prices can be quite different. Lakeway is more reasonably priced than anything on Lake Austin.

We are looking at Lakeway on Lake Travis. Sorry about the mistake- I get confused with the area. Do you know if they are good areas for kids?

We just got back from a 3 week fact-finding trip to Austin. I don't know as much as someone who lives there, but I would say that the Lake Travis area is quite livable for a family. We spent a lot of time looking at Lakeway. We found lots of activities to get involved in, pretty good services, getting closer all the time, nice neighborhoods, and not at all the cookie cutter community we thought it would be. A new hospital will be built near by. (I don't know anything about a timeline on that.) Lakeway used to be a retirement/resort community, but not any more; it is a mixed community of families and retirees, mansions to condos.

Default austin and area

it really depends on price range, where you will be working and the school district you want. Lakeway is a great place but it can be a tad on the high end and the westlake/bee caves/lake austin area can be pricey as well. the latter area gives you more convenience to dwntown and the lakeway area is growing quite a bit. they just put in a new mall at the intersection of 620 & 71. i could help with more specifics if you want, just ask or email me. i have lived in the area for over 25+ yrs

regards,
chris
