Relocation to Samsung Plant: Where to live?
I'll be moving to Austin around October and will be working at the Samsung Plant. Would love to have a commute of 25 min or less. Looking to spend $225K; I can afford more, but due to property taxes, I'd like to keep purchase price lower than I can afford (250K if dream home found).
I believe the plant is near Pflugerville; however, I'd like to avoid a sub. My interests are older neighborhoods that have style; no cookie cutter please. Developed trees wtih large lots are a huge plus. I'd like to reside in Austin but have no idea of the price range/condition of the NE part of the city.
Would anyone have some zip codes to recommend so I can check MLS? Appreciate any assistance.

You might want to look at some parts of Round Rock and Georgetown. Both communities have their subdivisions, of course, but they both have older neighborhoods, as well, that might fit the bill that you're describing, Georgetown in particular (I'm thinking Serenada, North Lake, Parkview, in particular, but there are others).

Check out Harris Branch:

Maybe not "older" enough for you, but worth checking out before you eliminate it.
If you have kids, schools are probably going to draw you to Pflugerville or Round Rock.
Older NE Austin would be the 78754 zipcode.

I admit I eliminated it because it didn't fit into the criteria stated. (I know this because I've been showing houses there and in Pioneer Crossing; those are the two subdivisions closest to Samsung.

Excellent...thanks for the info. No kids, but working on it! It doesn't need to be an too "old" of a neighborhood, just looking to stay away from the stereotypical cookie cutter. Love a little style in a home. Would a Georgetown commute be reasonable? Appreciate your assistance.

Well, I've been "commuting" to a neighborhood near there (I pass Samsung on the way, in fact) showing homes (my buyers have decided to purchase one) from about 15 minutes north of Georgetown, and it takes me about 45 minutes to get to the neighborhood from my home. A quick Mapquest search from my office a few miles west of IH35 on the western edge of Georgetown to Samsung shows that it would take 31 minutes.

I used to live North and personally I didn't like it. You might want to try Northwest Austin off of Duval. There are several communities in there with homes built in the 70s and 80s. If you want new, you'll have to go the cookie cutter route.

Relocating?
Are you relocating from San Diego to Austin?
I have a friend who is moving to NJ.
Are they closing down in San Diego?

I would suggest Parmer / McNiel or Parmer /Mopac area.. My wife just sold 2 houses in that area and we found some really unique properties with nice trees and in the 200k-230k price range. One of her clients actually worked at Samsung.
I wouldn't suggest pflugerville near Samsung to be honest.
