How is the Arboretum area?
I am moving to Austin and I was wondering there seems to be a lot of stores, gyms around the research Blvd. Is this considered the Arboretum area? Is it a good place to live/safe? Does anyone know of good apartments to live in?
Thanks!

The Arboretum is a great area and there are a ton of apartments close by. What area of town will you be working in though?

I will be working close to downtown. I don't want to live downtown b/c its too expensive and I don't want to live with the college kids. I am looking for single professionals. I will be working nights so I don't think I will have to deal with traffic.

I don't have any recommendations on specific apartments, but if it helps, the zip code in that area is 78759. I work in that area and it's a great area overall -definitely safe. I know of 3 gyms close by and there is lots of shopping. It's a pretty easy commute to downtown via Mopac if you don't have to deal with rush hour.

I live in that area (zip 78759) and find it pretty nice. I live in the neighborhood just south of Arboretum, see Mountain Ridge, Hyridge, Wildridge roads. It's quite pleasant to walk through, lots of trees. Easy access to the highways.
I checked out crime statistics via Austin Police website on this area before moving here and incidents are rare.

That's what I consider the Arboretum area... the area directly around the Arboretum itself, close to the 360 & 183 intersection, and 360/Great Hills. As you go further north on 183 you lose some of the trees, hills and views and it becomes more generic... although still quite convenient to many things. All pretty safe, though.

There are lots of fun bars and restaurants (and shops!!!) in the Arboretum/Domain area. I'd love to live there if I were single

What about the Domain apts? Those are pretty nice...swanky too, but a neat idea.
I live in the area you're looking at and it really is a very convenient place to be and has plenty of shopping and restaurants.
Look for apartments on Jollyville Road 78759. There are a bunch of nice complexes there.
