Hunting in the Lakeway area
I live in the Lakeway area (next to LT highschool/middleschool) and I am wondering if there are any places I could hunt that are close by. I was also wondering, since my house backs up to a nature preserve (again, the one that is directly across the street [620] from LT), if I could go down there and shoot squirrels/rabbits/coons, etc. with my pellet rifle. If you have any information regaurding any of my previous questions PLEASE post a reply.
Thanks so much!

no way!!! That's a preserve...not a hunting ground! And isn't fenced off with signs saying no trespassing"???!!!
This is on the TPWD official website:
"pellet guns and other air guns are NOT LEGAL."
Here is the link to the page with the rules on the TPWD website

Okay, so I guess the "small game hunting" is a no-go. What about in my backyard? Sometimes there are squirrels and birds that come in there, is that OK?
Still looking for oppinions on hunting grounds.

Why would you want to shoot squirrels and birds?? It's one thing if you have to shoot animals for food to survive, but why would you shoot animals that you are not going to eat? I think that's awful and people like you scare me. Get a target instead.

I assume you don't hunt.
Keep it on topic people, try not to cry over what many others and myself do as a hobby and stick to the topic.

I seriously doubt that you are going to find a place in town where it's legal to hunt or, for that matter, discharge a firearm. If you don't have any friends with land you can hunt on, you're likely going to have to make some, or find a hunting lease (probably the only hunting leases you'll find for birds around here will be for doves).
I do hope that you're planning on squirrel stew, though. Hunting is one thing, waste is something else entirely and not anything that the real hunters that I've known would condone.

Actually there are several people on here who hunt. Sitting in your backyard shooting birds and squirrels doesn't qualify. You must be from another state trolling the Texas boards for a laugh just to see if things like that really happen here. Go back and tell 'em all No, they don't.

Actually, I'm new to hunting (My friend who is an avid hunter took me squirrel hunting for the first time and I shot a squirrel, now I'm addicted) and I was just wondering where I could go hunting around this area.
Sorry to cause an uproar.

Lakeway, no. Leander, maybe. Just the other day, I saw a young guy standing in his front yard with a pellet gun watching a fluffy squirrel play in his tiny suburban subdivision front yard. I hope he was just trying to scare it...but it could've been your friend.

It's not hunting to sit in a lawnchair in your backyard shooting poor animals who happen to fly into your yard or climb your trees. I'm against hunting period, but at least some people hunt animals and use them for food and clothing. If you enjoy shooting innocent animals just for kicks, you have something in common with most serial killers, according to psychologists. Go to a shooting range instead.
