Looking to take a group of teenagers to a ball game in Austin - they are from the UK and they'd like to see a slice of local sports!

Anyone recommend a good venue and a good game coming up, in the next few days if possible? Or a website that lists such things?

I only know the Dell Diamond - are there any other good 'uns?

many thanks!!

Check out a Round Rock Express game at the Dell Diamond. Awesome stadium, even if it wasn't a minor league team...

Thanks for that - where's the 'best spot' to get seats? Will be endless trips for food, bathrooms etc etc no doubt. O and a good view!!

You pretty much can't go wrong at that field, and 'best seat' is a highly subjective term . Some people like seats along the first base line and near the wall - this gives you a good chance at having a smoking fastball fouled right at you. Since you will unlikely have gloves and your guests may not be used to the game itself, it is not my first recommendation.

The third base line has a lower chance of foul balls (but still a decent chance) and it is easier (to me) to judge the trajectory of a hooked vs. a sliced foul.

Right behind the plate your are well protected and get to see the pitch and swing from right-on the line of action, as well as get a good look at the lateral motion, but I have never liked that spot myself - too hard to see first and second plate, which is where most of the close calls/excitement occur.

The outfield can be fun, if you want to sit on the grassy berm and hope to catch a home run. Lots of kids running around out there, too.

Guess I am not really recommending anything yet, huh? Personally, I like to sit sort of higher up (lower level, though) along the first base line. If you can score luxury box tickets, those are great seats, too .

I would recommend the 3rd base side if its sunny because the sun won't be right in your face for the first part of the game.

Yeah, 3rd base side. Dell Diamond is pretty much the only stadium around here, unless maybe UT has a game going on. If you were up to a road trip, you could drive to Houston to see a pro game.

Immediately after the Express game this Friday night, they will be doing fireworks as they do most Friday nights so that would be the best night to go this weekend. It's actually a really good fireworks show too.

Friday is also the first day that they are back in town this week. Parking is $5. It's a good idea to get there about an hour early if you want to watch some batting practice and walk around a bit before the game starts. Plus, 79 can get backed up quite a bit from I35 to Dell Diamond before the games especially on Fridays.

I don't think you can go wrong with any seat in that stadium, but as other people have noted, it will be quite sunny along the first base line until about 7:40PM. It's normally fine after that once the sun goes down a bit.

It's actually pretty good. I like the food over near the berm, can't remember what the name of it is, but there are picnic tables all over and it's covered. I had a really good turkey sandwich there. I think they also have bbq and several other types of sandwiches and actual meal food. There are other places scattered around the stadium to get other standard fare like nachos, peanuts, popcorn, hot dogs and other things. Plus, vendors go through the stands as well. There's also a club room, but I think it's private, not sure. I don't know how much it costs to get in there.

Would that be the Texadelphia Cabana? I saw on the website it's near the berm, looks like a good spot as the kids don't know anything about baseball and a whole game might be a bit much for them...we're just going for the whole fun experience, I hope!!!
