Default from Mt Pleasant Michigan to Austin Texas

So I have been living in Michigan for a while now and it is just not working out. I have been on the hunt for a job since last year and still no luck.

I grew up in Seadrift Texas and have spent lots of time in Austin and lived in Dallas for over a year. I have talked my husband into moving to Austin in the spring if things do not start looking up for us. While I have spen lots of time in Austin and know the city well I have never lived in Austin. My husband and I are both students and he is an intern with a college working in the computer feild. The intership was looking like it was going to be full time, but they changed their mind and it is now dead end for him.

So Austin it is, some time in the spring. What things should I expect from Austin. I have been told by may friends that jobs are abundant in many areas of employment. And anyone with drive will be able to find jobs quickly in Austin. I have been told that the economy in Austin is still healthy.

My brother will be moving down to Austin and we will be staying with him until we find work so we will have some place to stay.

At this point we have nothing to lose. We have little money and no way to make any so we have to make a change.

ETA: What parts of town should I stay away from when looking at aprtments?

I am in RR and don't know a lot about the "bad" areas in Austin, but one that I do know of is Rundberg and I-35. I don't know what area of town you'll be interested in looking but that's the one I would stay away from.

I agree the Rundberg/ Lamar/ I35/183 area is not nice! Maybe use google earth to get some close ups of areas you are considering?

I am looking for anything, but most of my work experience is in Customer Service and sales. I have worked in many areas of customer Service, but I would stay away from the food industry from now on. Hospitality is Ok, but no more food.
