Weather in general is better in Oklahoma City, although it does get colder in the winter. Tornadoes should be less of a problem in Austin, but I still remember being stuck in the flooding basement of the Physics building at UT when the F5 hit Jarrell, and several other tornadoes were present around Austin.

It's easier to get a job in Oklahoma City, but the pay will be noticeably less. Economically, I think in the short term things will be better in Oklahoma City, however, since OKC is much more conservative, periods of extreme growth (like dot-com) will not happen like they did in Austin. Austin is very much good-old-boys & connections oriented as far as getting jobs. Personally, I almost feel like my UT-Austin CS degree is like a piece of toilet paper over there, and I would have been better served by going somewhere else.

I think the schools in the suburbs are probably better in Oklahoma City than around Austin, and much more bang-for-the-buck. Oklahoma City is much more family oriented. People in Austin always talk about how great such-and-such school district is, but that's typically after they move there and later decide to have kids. In Oklahoma City, people are more likely to decide to move somewhere because of the kids, and not vice versa.

Shopping should be better in Austin. I personally don't like to go shopping, so I'm not the best to answer that.

Lots of parks in both cities. I used to hang out around Zilker Park when I was a kid, but many of the parks in both places are fairly small. Parks seem more utilized in Oklahoma City than Austin. People in Austin and other similar places typically have to talk about having access to option XYZ, but often don't actually use it. Work demands are typically greater in Austin and people more stressed out because it's twice as expensive as a place like OKC.

I'd put it above OKC in all of those categories (and others) except possibly shopping.

Default I have lived in both

OKC is horrible basically all around except housing prices. Crimes are horrible, racism is horrible..( i am caucasian) the police system is the worst...they are so low on officers citizens are having to deal with their own crimes. Schools rank as one of the lowest. and it is the overweight state of the us. The IQ of the overall state is very low and most people are all ultra ultra conservative...but if you like a liquor store and a church on EVERY corner this is your haven.....austin has culture and things for all to do....it is a liberal city and accepting of all....the police force is decent...the hospitals won't kill you like in okc....don't move to OKC....you will regret it forever...

Austin is above Oklahoma city in all aspects, you can't even compare the two.

Never lived in OKC - but it feels like Wichita, KS (just wanted to hurry up and drive through it).

Oh fuel is cheaper in OK.

Last I checked, it's not called Austin City. Just Austin. Or A-Town.

Umm... I-35 runs through both of them? I seriously can't think of anything that is remotely common between the two. I was in OKC recently and thought it was a major disappointment. Austin is better in every single way except for cost of living.

They're close to the same longitude...

Yep, that about covers it.

Oklahoma City. Worse weather (many more tornadoes and hail storms), even more conservatives, less scenery, generally not-as-up-to-date...closer to the awesome scenery of Kansas and Nebraska.

Austin. Good weather, conservative yet the school tends to offset some of it, it's the southern "tech center"...and it's not occupied by 60 IQ Oklahomeys. You're close enough to Mexico to get stupid, if need be.

;-)

Yeah, I'm from Texas...uh, huh....
