I have one 220/240v appliance I couldn't give up in my move here. I am looking for someplace local to buy a step up/step down voltage converter. I've searched the internet, but can't come up with anything.

I'm needing a 2000W step up/step down converter. These aren't usually sold at regular electronic stores. With all the British expats that I see around here, I was hoping that someone would know of a local place. I can always order one online, but trying to do that buy local thing.

Having had the converter I purchased at Fry's fail in Australia on day four of our month-long excursion Down Under, I'd avoid them. It functioned for three minutes before the smoke escaped...many times, they carry items which fell off the back of a truck...literally. I've not bought one thing there which didn't have some odd failure, was damaged in shipping, was missing parts, etc. We're talking name-brand stuff, too. Sony (computer), Siemens (telephone), Kensington (trackball), and other stuff I've merely blocked from my mind.

Fry's have a 2KW step-up/down transformer, I bought one there a while ago. It's a bit heavy, but does the job.
