Hi everyone. My husband's job is relocating to killeen (ft hood). We are a late 30's couple with 2 boys (4 & 6 y/o). We are looking for a suburb, not too crowded, with a decent choice of family activities, and a variety of good schools, public and private. Can i get some recommendations from residents in the area. We are willing to go out about 40 mile radius from killeen. Oh yeah our budget is about $175000-225000. Thanks

Girl, the Ft Hood, Killeen, Belton, Temple area is a rapidly expanding metro with lots of options from which to choose. May as well get out your google map now. Some posters here go as far south as Georgetown. I've seen several new suburban developments around south and west areas of Temple. And around the lake in Belton.

I hear that the hiway 190 access to Ft Hood is pretty busy during typical rush hours.

I would list this in the Austin forum so you will get more responses, as Killeen is closer to Austin than Dallas. Hope this helps!

I'd select a handful of ES schools using the attached map & THEN start looking for neighborhoods (hopefully in your price-range). Good luck.

I like the culture and feel of Belton. Cute downtown with Mary-Hardin Baylor, a river, antique stores, old homes and community events like the 4th of July parade. The town is family-oriented and youth-baseball-crazy. There are some nice neighborhoods, esp. near the lake.
