Question How much do musicians make in Austin.

We live in Florida and we average about 400 dollars a gig for the entire band. I was wondering since the music scene is pretty big over, is there an overpopulation of bands?
Will be be able to pull some decent cash over there?

There is a huge range of money you can make, but it will be very meager starting out. I am not a musician, but it is hard not to know a few around here. Anyway, if you want to play at a venue, you will probably start out for free or pretty close to it, especially at the 'known' locations. Other locations may pay you a flat fee or give you a portion of the cover charge (if no one shows, you make squat). If you get a following, of course, and they can count on some draw, you can start to make some better money.

To tell you the truth, I think most bands play events (parties and proms) or go to out of town locations to try and make some money. It has been years since I have been very close to the music scene, so things may have changed, but don't count on a certain dollar amount unless you check it out first.
