Default An outsiders opinion!

During the time I spent in Round Rock, I saw good and bad on both sides of
I35. This is of course, is the observation of an outsider who spent a considerable amount of time in RR. I personally didn't think one side had it all over the other one in terms of poorer vs. wealthier, as I noticed pockets of good and bad on both sides equally.

As for the schools, I can't tell you which is better or worse as this isn't my concern, as I was looking at it purely from a real estate angle.

Wow, there were no responses to the one Jenbar posted about where w. rr was. So mine fell kindof out of order. I drove by the Paloma Lakes subdivision and I think it said the highest priced homes were 800k. This is on the East side of 35. Lower income maybe, but not LOW income. Most people East of 35 nowadays are also middle class with several more upper middle class families moving in. We're by no means dirt poor and consider ourselves just middle class from middle class backgrounds ourselves.

Anyone who can afford an 800K home can't be lower middle class, at least not to me. I would think they'd be upper middle class, unless they were poor and won the lottery.

gogogal is on a distinguished road
I let myself get caught up in the east vs west snobbery that exists for years. I had always heard don't go east. Recently we decided to move from Steiner to a place with a better commute for DH. We absolutely would not look at anything east. We had settled on a neighborhood in west RR (Behrens Ranch area) and were all set to have a house built. After having problems with a terrible builder, we started looking again. We decided to take a peek at east RR and actually ended up buying there. The commute is much better than it would have been from the west end.
As far as people saying that the west end has higher end neighborhoods, I can say that is absolutely untrue. We looked long and hard for a house so we know the area pretty well. Each side has their nice areas and their bad areas. East RR actually has more higher end homes than the west which is where we ended up. The schools are very comparable on both sides. In any given year, one side may have more exemplary schools than the other side - but that is always changing. As far as high schools go, most areas of west Round Rock don't go to Westwood - they go to McNeil or Round Rock, which I agree are currently rated better than Stony Point. A new high school is being built which will totally change all the boundaries in Round Rock.
We love living in east Round Rock. The people are much friendlier than other areas of Austin that I have lived. I think most people that have a negative opinion of east Round Rock don't know east Round Rock.

Yep- lived E and it wasn't for us, but everyone is looking for a different lifestyle and we have to find were we are happy, that is the main goal, one would think
I feel that everyone should state facts that are true to what they find and believe and one can take what they want from them, no one is right or wrong in there choices!

I sincerely didn't know there was East/West RR snobbery until I started reading these posts. How silly. Overall I think Round Rock is a nice place to live and has more good qualities than bad.

I also heard that the school superintendent, Jesus Chavez lives somewhere in Forest Creek. Which is considered East RR. I doubt he'd be slumming it.

I have driven through some pretty rough parts of west side. I think people should state facts that are true... period. Not "true to them".

turned around yet again....but that is OK, it is all about happiness.....I think that is what one is searching for in finding a home and living in a neighborhood!
Like I have said even before there are good and bad in all areas everywhere.....being at peace with were you call home, I think is the main goal for all.
Negative surrounds you if you let it and if you surround yourself with positive people then life is good, I am glad I have found that with E & W side friends, we all can meet in the middle!!
