Thanks for your quick reply!
Any elementary and middle schools in those areas you would recommended? We have young children in preschool and kindergarten.

Based purely on ratings and word of mouth, we are focusing on Baranoff, Mills or Patton elementary schools, and I would really like Small middle school (although Bailey middle comes up a lot also). I haven't had the time yet to actually visit the schools and pick up any literature, but we are focusing (right now) on the neighborhoods that feed into those schools.

I live in the 78749 zip code. IMHO, it is one of the better non-downtown neighborhoods (actually, I kind of like not being downtown). As for school zones, somewhere between Davis Lane and Convict Hill the designated HS changes from Bowie to Austin. I suppose it meanders, but it changes in the middle of the neighborhood somewhere. Almost the entire area goes to Clint Small MS, but I guess some could go to Bailey. All the schools in this area are generally very good. The neighborhood is very young (some might feel a little out of place with out elementary age kids ) and pay attention to the school issues and their kids.
As for houses, I happen to know that the house just down the street from me just sold:
sales price: ~$249,000
sq. ft: ~1900
$/sq. ft: $131 (1 story)
Days on market: 9
This seems to be typical for this area. For reference sake, this was 27% above the appraised value on TravisCAD.org

Back to the question: Madaline Murray O'Hair was the head of an organization to promote atheism based out of Austin. She was murdered in 1995. Anyway, I doubt if you would be alone in your beliefs there.

Heh...I think her demise was more related to her general offensiveness rather than her beliefs... She was murdered by an empoyee and fellow atheist, I think.

A rude comment!
According to be news reports, she was murdered for about 1/2 million dollars that she had and the murderer wanted.

I mean, after all, it still is Texas - and you all know the stereotypes. (Which, good or bad, are there for a reason... as with any state's stereotypes.)
I was kind of shocked that the statesman had a "Faith" section weekly... and my friend in Waco said she doesn't even know anyone who doesn't "believe" in god... or would admit to it... (I know Waco is a whole other area...)

Sorry, I don't believe in Atheists.
