I'm planning to move to Austin in January and I want to get involved with the green scene in town, ideally as a career.

What organizations seem the most effective and inspriring? My main interests are urban/corporate responsibility and community groups that lobby for good public transportation and other local needs.

I've come across the Austin Sierra Club but don't know of many others yet.

The guys who run Greenling in Austin are lobbying for organic farming in Texas, they could use some help.

BTW volunteering is a great 'in' to jobs in this sphere. Try offering your services for nothing, or a small fee, until you can raise enough funds to pay your own wage. That way you will create your own job. I've done that successfully now 3 times with various companies - it works!

Hi South Down,

I saw a post about possible green jobs in Austin, and you replied:

What do you mean? I am myself moving to Austin, and would also like to find a career in Sustainabilty. How does one raise funds, even if it's non profit, and it's for a cause. Grants? I am a little confused...please clarify. Thanks.
