I switched to AT&T U-Verse earlier this year....HUGE mistake. First, if you enjoy HD programming, I recommend you stay away from AT&T. HD quality was visibly worse than TWC. Even my wife, who really doesn't care about HD, noticed the difference in quality immediately. Maybe they have improved this since we switched back to TW. The customer service from AT&T was also noticeably worse than TW. Anyone who has complained about TW service in the past has not had to deal with AT&T. The features that AT&T are attractive, but the execution just wasn't there. Sorry for the rant...I really wanted the U-verse to work for me, but it did not, and I wanted to give others fair warning.

It's definitely good that we share our different TV provider experiences. It really seems that TV services can be hit or miss in different areas or even housing tracts. I'm going to try out U-verse next week and see how it is. Since there's not contract, I'm just going to see how it is for a month.
My Time Warner signal has always seemed flaky at my house even though TW states that it's strong and the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR boxes keep failing on me. The hard drive just died completely in the one I have currently. I've switched out two others in the past two years as well. If the DVR box was better, I wouldn't be switching.

I'd do Directv over TWC.

It is not legal for them to say you can't have one. They can outline where they are allowed to be installed. For instance, they can't be in a common area. They must be installed on your balcony or another area that you actually pay rent for. They also are allowed to charge whatever they feel necessary as a deposit in case the dish falls, etc.
I don't remember the exact FCC law but you are certainly covered from a legal standpoint.

I think the issue is that KXAN wants TW to pay to carry thier station. TW contends that the channel/ signal is given to them by the Feds/ over the air. Since KXAN makes their $ thru advertising, they are kinda silly not to have TW carry their station (more customers/ TW coverage is larger than over the air). Sooooo, on this one I agree with TW.
But overall, TW brings the suck!/ the info on the shows is pathetic. I want U-verse but it is unavailible in 78734. Spending too much for their package atm, have Roadrunner/Cable/phone. I would ditch the phone as I never use it, but I have to have it for the security system. I WANT MORE HD. is it worth looking into just keeping the internet/phone portion. and getting a dish for the tele s?
