I am really enjoying the Starz Family channel they are now playing in place of NBC. I only watch two shows on NBC, and I have just watched them on the internet. I thought it would be a bigger inconvenience to not have NBC, but I could definitely do without them.

Eh, if you are anywhere near Austin, you can set up an antennae and get the local stations crystal clear in HD.
I don't have TW, but it appears that it all comes down to more profit for one or the other.....

The one party no one has heard from on this issue is the advertisers. If I was paying mega dollars to advertise to the Austin audience, I would be some upset if the message was not getting out to a significant portion of the population.
I wonder if KXAN still claims xxxx many viewers in the Austin area when they go to sell advertising time?

You know I have to take TW's side on this. To iceshots point, if I were an advertiser, why would I expect KXAN to get paid to broadcast when it's free to anyone without cable? I agree, I have a TV with an antenna or I can watch shows online for free so why would I want to pay more in my cable bill? Besides, NBC doesn't have a lot of good shows anyway.

The really annoying thing is that signals won't be broadcast over the airwaves in February- you'll need cable or satellite. No more rabbit ears!

Not entirely true. If you get the converter box, you'll still be able to use an antenna (though I don't know if rabbit ears will work or not - they don't work all that well for us now, we live out in the country and have a BIG antenna).

They'll just be different signals then. Will likely need a different antenna, too, but watch for 'deals' from local suppliers. You should be OK.

We have a 1979 TV still alive and well, from Oscar Snowden's.

When I was in Big Lots last week they had HD and Digital compatible TV antennas for $10 or less. I will be picking one up just to try. You may want to check if it works with older analog TVs and would convert the digital signal just like a cable converter box. It would be a cheap way to keep picking up over the air signals.

My Time Warner signal has always seemed flaky at my house even though TW states that it's strong and the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR boxes keep failing on me. The hard drive just died completely in the one I have currently. I've switched out two others in the past two years as well. If the DVR box was better, I wouldn't be switching.

I had Cox in San Diego before we moved and had the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR. That thing failed on me twice. AWFUL device. When I learned that is what TWC used here, I passed and got Direct Tv. So glad I did. Love my service!
