Default NBC no longer with Time Warner Cable

I just heard that Time Warner is refusing to sign a contract to keep KXAN - Austin NBC channel on it's cable line up so as of Oct. 2nd no more NBC. I went to KXAN website and sure enough it's true. I called Time Warner about it and they said it's not true.

Anyone hear about this? I got my Time Warner bill yesterday saying that rates are going up and today I find out that NBC will be taken away. I'm looking into the Dish and Direct TV.

The same thing happened with Suddenlink last year. I bet they get it worked out. I would look at DIRECTV. More HD than anyone if that is important.

I had Directv and really liked it. When I moved here, however, I didn't want to sign up for a year so I got Time Warner. The WORST DVR EVER! That lasted a week (cancelling with them was hell!) and I now have AT&T Uverse. Their equipment is nice (i.e. it doesn't look like it's from the 90s like Time Warner's) and I love the DVR. I'm having all sorts of glitches, however, that makes watching certain channels impossible. They said something about working on the lines outside last week but it seems to have gotten worse, so apparently I have to call them. Other than that, though, it's great!

DirecTV doesn't have OnDemand, so be warned. If it weren't for the AT&T glitches, I would say U-Verse is WAY better than DirecTV.

I almost signed up with ATT Uverse two weeks ago but when I read the fine print I changed my mind. It said you can only watch 2 HD shows at the same time in the whole house. Well, there are 5 people in this house and we love our HD. That was the deal breaker for me. My husband watches sports in HD in the office, I watch HD shows in the family room and the kids then can't watch anything different on their TV. ATT guy just told me to watch SD. Well, I didn't buy HDTV for no reason.

Time Warner could sign a deal or a temporary deal with another NBC affiliate in another market such as the Killeen market so you probably won't miss any national NBC programming. You would still miss the local news from KXAN though. I believe that's what Suddenlink did when they had the same issue.

AT&T is supposedly going to be implementing an upgrade to allow 3 simultaneous HD streams within the next few months in the Austin area.

AT&T upgrades U-verse DVR

Correct. I live in Georgetown (suddenlink)and we lost KXAN for a few days in Jan. After a couple of days, we got the NBC affiliate out of Waco? After maybe a week or 2 we got back on KXAN. I am sure that it is just a stand off. No way KXAN wants to be left off of Time Warner

Come on over to Direct TV!! Heck, we had Direct long ago when they broadcasted NO local channels, what a pain! After moving, we went with TW phone and internet and tried to get cable, but they couldn't come close to matching Direct's price with all the receivers, DVRs and HDs we have. Wouldn't switch for anything!

TW blows. I'd get Uverse but it's not available where I live. Stupid.

If you can't join 'em, beat 'em....according to DrudgeReport, Time Warner is considering buying out NBC if it is for sale.
