I just moved to Austin and I have not been able to find any information regarding getting my dogs licensed through the city. In Minnesota, we had to have all pets licensed but I'm not sure the laws here in Austin.

Thanks!

When I adopted a cat from the Williamson county shelter they had me sign a paper saying I would get her licensed every year. I thought that was crazy - for a cat and an indoor one to boot.

I found an old website where you sent $5.00 to register your pet with the city of Austin. However the $5.00 was sent to some local Vet. They sent back my check saying that (since 2005?) you no longer needed to register your pet in Austin. So no, your pet does not need to be registered.

The vet will give you a rabies tag after vaccination. This will help identify your dog if he gets lost. Of course, getting him chipped is the best thing. Also, make sure he gets on flea and tick medicine right away and heartworm prevention.
