Default Thread for those trying to sell your home and move to Austin

Just wondering how many are like me. Have a job. Start date in January. Need to sell our place this fall. We are in NYC. Been on market 3 weeks.

Like the commercial says "I'm There".

We came down a month ago on a transfer from Toronto. House was on the market since mid June and finally sold today. Spent months looking at houses here both pre and post move and finally found the right one last week. We start doing the inspections tomorrow.

With a little perseverance you will get through the tough spots. Just make sure your house is priced right and you don't get too greedy.

The adjustment from Toronto to Austin went fairly well even though we arrived in mid-Aug just prior to the end of the heat wave. People are very friendly and helpful. Just go with the flow and accept Austin and Texas for what it is.

Good Luck

Getting ready to put the house on the market this week. Dh went down and put a contract on a home to be built. He starts work in October... BUT... he can live with his sister and her family. I'll stay here with the kids (all three are school aged) If this house sells before the Austin house is ready I can move the kids and myself to my parents for the remaining time.

I have some room to play with... but I'm already REALLY nervous about the house we're in selling by the time the new house in Austin is done.

Not to mention dh being 10.5 hours away by car.

Boo.

My house in Pittsburgh, PA. has been on the house for 55 days with several showings and NOT ONE offer. I'm an ICU RN so finding a job once I sell will not be a big issue. I plan on renting for the first year or so and then maybe purchase a townhouse in Austin.

We haven't listed our house in Atlanta. We're thinking about renting it and listing in the spring.

YIKES! As I said in another post, someone FINALLY looked at my house after almost five months on the market, and it's looking like they want to buy it. So I will be headed to Austin sans job, but as I got laid off of my job here two months ago I guess it doesn't matter where I'm NOT working. I'm heading down there end of October and looking for a rental. Then I have to move with a teenager, two horses, a dog, and a cat. I might have to re-think moving the horses the logistics and expense of that is becoming somewhat daunting as I have to hire an equine shipper, but with no final destination at this point.

My house (in SoCal) was on the market for 3 or 4 months before getting an offer. Multiple showings. I had to drop the price by $100K! It took me a year from saying "Yes, I want to move to Austin" to actually move to Austin, but I'm FINALLY here!

Loss of 100k, wow!! Did you still make a profit off it?

vtcowgirl, couple of things. You'll be looking for a rental that will take horses, correct? Or were you thinking of boarding? (If so, I can give you a few names of places.)

Second, what kind of work are you going to be looking for? (If you've told me already, forgive me, I'm having a senior moment.)

Third, perhaps you could find someone who's already hauling this direction when you need to come and piggyback with them - pay fuel expenses or something like that - to ease the burden. I hate to see anyone have to give up their horses if they don't want to.

I'll be in your shoes next spring.

We have been unsure of where in Texas we would be relocating to but just go word last week that it will indeed be Austin.

We now have to start getting our townhouse in shape to put on the market by spring. I hope that it sells by the summer so we can move down and get settled. I think we will be renting initially, too, so we can explore the different areas down there and then buy.

Good luck. I hope your house sells quickly.
