I don't have much problem at all getting around in Austin. And the town I live in (or, rather, near) has a population of about 1500; heck, we don't even have a blinking yellow!

Depends on where you're coming from. It's subjective. I live in a major city and have been to Austin twice. I found the downtown to be really nice and very walkable, but very small in comparison to where I live. I thought Austin felt like a small city with a country feel.

True, the traffic is frustrating. However, once you get to know your way around, you learn to avoid certain areas during certain times of day.

Austin is has a large university and grad population. You will fit right in. Living in town you'll find it very urban. In fact, we are currently experiencing a large population growth in town and plenty of housing development is underway in and around central Austin.
