Default Where to buy furniture in Austin

I recently moved to Austin after visiting many times. I really like living here.

I have moved into a new apartment and I would love to hear recommendations from y'all about good places to buy furniture in Austin.

I am looking for everything: Bedroom, living room, bathroom, dining room, etc.

I am very interested in hearing about local stores more than the chains. I am looking for new and used stuff.

So where are the places the locals go for furniture? Help me support the local businesses.

What kind of price point?
What style?

Price is not as important to me as quality. I want to buy stuff that will last for awhile. I would of course prefer not buy expensive furniture, but I'd rather have quality over a bargain that might not last too long.

Comfort for me is the key. As for style, I know what I don't like. I don't like a lot of the contemporary furniture. I want something that is warm looking. For example, I'd much rather have a comfortable couch than one that looks great, but is uncomfortable. I feel like alot of the contemporary furniture is really quite uncomfortable.

This is the first time I am buying furniture for myself. All my furniture was hand me downs, so this is all very new to me, so, to be honest, I am not sure what I want which is why I am asking for suggestions.

Also, I forgot to add...

Does anyone have links for some cool design sites for apartments and homes.

One example is

apartmenttherapy.com, sites like that.

What site do you visit to get ideas for furnishing your living space?

Gage Furniture is a local Austin furniture store that we had a good experience with. Their selection isn't huge but you might get lucky and find what you are looking for.

We also bought a lot of furniture from Star Furniture. We love the furniture but we had to send our coffee table back 6 times because of dents/scratches. Also Beware their prices fluctuate like crazy -- the couch we bought was $1100 but 1 month later it was being sold for $1800. Their store is huge though and might be easier to just get everything from there. When you go there, ask for Armando to show you around...He'll actually be patient and helpful in showing you around

We shopped around a lot, thinking we would purchase pieces from different places, but we ended up buying almost everything from Lack's. Great selection, prices, and customer service.

Spend some time on Burnet Road, starting at the intersection of Anderson Lane. You can find a wide range of stuff, from modern to traditional to antiques to junk. My favorites are Urban Living (a new modern store at Anderson Lane in a shopping center) and Uptown Modern (vintage store across from Austin Diner).
