Madras Pavillion is south Indian food.. namely Dosa's and idli's etc. except for the idli (white steamed cake) and rasam soup, most everything is fried in some way or form and quite unhealthy. Its still delicous though and they have a big buffet during weekends. I am not sure about their cleanliness.

There's a place on e. riverside called Indian Kitchen. I haven't been yet, but it's suppose to be very good and it'll be the only option down south.

I really like the Star of India - it's fairly basic but it's authentic and unpretentious, clean, friendly, and very good value - good for going out with a group for a cheap and informal dinner.
The buffet is $10 and (on my visits so far) has always looked fresh and well-stocked.

In time Austin will have the same wonderful Indian Restaurants we have in England. It sucked big time when I was there but with your growing Indian community I'm sure it will change.

Madam Mam's is not the best Thai food. I have tried it and I'm not impressed.

Swad - Best veg food....but, very bad ambience. Take out will be your best option with Swad.
Bombay Bistro - better ambience, good food/menu. They used to have the best indian choice, but the chefs keep changing and the food sometimes can be below average.
Madras Pavilion - very popular for their lunch buffet. Its again veg. I'll give good grade.
Star of India - OK too.
Sarovar - never go there. blah!
Shalimar - i am not a fan of theirs. But if you are particular about Halal, this is your place.

Bombay Express for vegetarian Indian. It is more of a fast food/quick lunch place. No buffet.
Shalimar - This place is a little dirty and in a slightly sketchy area, but the food is good.
Chola (Round Rock) - I really like Chola, but I'd order off the dinner menu which tends to be a lot better than the lunch buffet.

Try Teji's, it's both an indian supermarket and a restaurant. The food is by far the best I've had in either Austin or NYC. The only other places that were better were restaurants in Vancouver and England. I highly recommend the 'Butter Chicken', you won't regret it. The restaurant is located right across the Round Rock high school.
