Tons of people outside, open car hoods, unkept lawns. Keep in mind, this was a new neighborhood not some slum old part of Hutto.
|
Uhmmm... not the Hutto that I have driven through countless times. Not even the older part near the historical main street.
... but I did just drive through an area of Austin, on the west side of 35, near that 360 bowling alley that totally fits this description.

Just going by observations. I don't live there, I have nothing to gain or lose.

It's funny to me how people who don't live here seem to see some alternate universe from what I see every day. You're probably talking about legends of Hutto, since it was one of the first neighborhoods out here. And talk about the lawns...yes, there are some, but if so many out of state investors or central austin slum lords cared enough about their properties to actually hire a landscaper to come out and take care of it every 2 weeks or so or got proactive with their tenants and made them do it, that wouldn't be a problem. Or get renters who will actually promise to take care of things People don't walk the sidewalks with guns, and in fact, if they do get caught, will get in trouble (even with fake water guns that look too real) and Hutto is too small to have a slum yet. I haven't seen totally ragged out neighborhoods either, and the last time I talked to the chief of police, he said we have one of the lowest crime rates in the area. Mostly just vandalism type stuff. No murders or gang violence. Lots of people outside in Steiner Ranch or any other West/Southwest neighborhoods is always seen as a great thing, why is that different East of 35? (I'm sure someone will have a comeback for that ) Car hoods open....Well, if you were there on a weekend could be that people were working on their cars??? This is a small Texas town and we do have quite a few shadetree mechanics around here. Hutto, especially on the South end has grown pretty much to the edge of Rices Crossing and just about to the RR/Pflugerville line, so you may not be aware of how much has gone up around here. And just how many concerned citizens who actually want to see what a good thing we can have here have actually moved here and gotten involved. Did you realize we have a new citizens group? It was originally formed to fight the landfill and power line issue, but has been getting involved in lots of other things. We also have a "citizens academy" class at the City Hall where a certain amount of citizens for each session go and learn about government and city government and also get to be on City Boards? Like the Parks board, EDC, and quite a few others. Although you don't have to go to the classes to get on a board, but it helps to be informed about what's going on in the town. The schools are not bad for being in a small town. Taxes are not as high here as they are in Ausin. And I also heard in our paper that the rail lines through RR and Hutto may get here sooner than we think. There are more strip/shopping centers planned, but did anyone know that the city, before they open the things for lease urge anyone who would like to start their own business to get in before any chains come in? I don't see that as a bad thing. We also have code enforcement who will make people remove things that are unsightly or cluttered, and She is mean too! It's very diverse here and we have a black mayor and I think he does a bang up job and actually talks to people and responds very quickly to issues.

Man, a few paragraphs wouldn't hurt.
I didn't say there were people running around sidewalkds with guns, I said I saw one instance where a preteen was riding a bike around flailing a gun around that looked real. It was the impression I got within 5-10 minutes of driving through a neighborhood, that's all. First impressions make a huge impact on the likability of a neighborhood.
Again, this wasn't the legends of Hutto, it was a new neighborhood, still in development. Didn't mean to offend anyone.. it was an initial impression. What do I have to gain? Would you rather me lie and say I saw sunflowers and kids skipping with hearts floating above their heads? :P

I'm confused by these people saying all of these crazy things about Hutto? I do live there and I have never seen anything that would remind me of A slum? If you admit that you never lived there and you haven't even seen an inch of the land in years how can you even comment? Everyone that I've come in contact with that do actually live there love it. Our neighbor's called the area a "blessing."

Because I've been there only a year ago..
I'm not even saying all of Hutto is like that.. Infact, I said "other than that it seems like a quite little town." Again, just one observation, and a short one at that. You can choose to interpret as you wish.

Gotta watch out for us crazy Hutto people: We do bite and wear boxing gloves! J/K. I actually had a good laugh about the skipping and hearts No, I don't expect people to lie, but you didn't say it was a place still under construction. This place has grown quite a bit more in a year. Most people West of 35 have some sort of vendetta against this place and don't post ANYTHING positive (of course, noone says they have to) but they usually make things out to be 5,000 times worse than they are and post things without stating it as an opinion, but make it seem like all they post is a total fact.
Of course, I'm sure there are lots of people who could make the distinction between a fact and an opinion, there are newcomers who might not be aware since they don't know the area in general. (I made a new paragraph for you! )
Oh, one other thing...We do get sunflowers and sometimes kids do skip around here.
O.K, I tried to make paragraphs but for some reason after I hit reply It all blended again! I'll do better next time

Hutto is not Austin, Hutto is not Round Rock West. Hutto is Hutto, a small farm town trying to grow up. Compare oranges to oranges. Compare Hutto to Thrall because that is what Hutto used to be years ago. And if you have been through Thrall then you will see just how far Hutto has come.
I'm not putting down Hutto, but if you're looking for something upscale and prestigious or you want to compare Hutto neighborhoods to Circle C or the upscale new subdivisions in Round Rock West..well you're barking up the wrong tree.
