Does anyone know where we can find property tax information for Autstin? We would like to know what the property taxes on a 1,000 square foot retirement box would run.

Approx 3% a year, give or take depending on the area of town. You also get a small homestead exclusion.

Plan for 3%, but actual base taxes are probably ~2.7%, then misc. minor exemptions. The homestead exemption, and over 65 (I think?) you can get some portions of the tax 'capped'. It may be a little more complicated, search the forum for tax exemptions (here and in TX forum and mybe SA I have seen discussion).

Websites for the 3 main appraisal districts in the Austin Metro area:
www.traviscad.org www.hayscad.com www.wcad.org They have their tax rates posted and you can search for specific properties. www.taxnetusa.com will have appraisal info for almost all TX counties also. |
