To be fair, they are now discussing Taylor, not Hutto....
How about we end the debate here on Taylor BBQ establishments and either take it to a new thread or dig up the old one.
Thank you.

Hutto isn't the topic here. We went off topic. We're talking about a place in Taylor called the Taylor Cafe. Hutto is not segregated and we have a black mayor. The place we're talking about is a resturaunt 20 miles away that at one time was segregated. The link I pasted is a story about the place and it talks about that. I just thought it was relevant. I don't hate anyone on this thread, but yes, it's a heated topic for sure. Hutto is growing rapidly. Taylor is a good sized little town, but for the most part, hasn't been touched by any of this growth spurt that other places have, so it's still pretty rural feeling. Hutto is a great place, although not topographically as exciting as West of 35. Sorry the OP's oringinal post got lost in this. I guess I can put down my sticks and stones.

On the more positive side, Hutto is minutes from Round Rock, which is larger and because of Dell - much more diverse... so I don't think that you will have much of a problem. I would probably stay West, vs. East.

Excuse me, they don't have segregated BBQ places. Your talking about ol' Vincel and he's not racist. People from all over the dang world from Sweden to Africa and the like have come to his joint. Give me a break.

That being said, Hutto is a wonderful place, grown dramatically, and definitely diverse. The schools aren't bad, Home Depot and Lowes just built, and HEB Food Store on the way. It's a booming place to live.

When?? They keep saying they're coming, but I don't believe it anymore. Especially since they bought out the Albertson's on Gattis School. That's no closer to me than the one on 79 and Palm Valley. Other than that, I second everything else you said

Just be careful of what subdivision you live in. Several are entry level starter homes and and it shows, not only in the quality of the homes but also the type of people that bought in there. I don't want to name names, but if you visit do more than see the model home..drive around with your eyes open.

So what are you trying to say? J/K!!! Seriously though, I live in Hutto and by no means am a creepy person (no, really, I'm not ) The only 2, o.k, lets say 3 areas to be careful of: HuttoParke, Legends(although the houses are nicer here, there is a little bit of unsavory element here), and old town (some sex offenders live there). We have one sex offender listed in our neighborhood and that's all. So far, no violent crimes in this area. Neighborhoods in this area are really starting to veer away from starter.

love roses - I didn't mean to offend anyone and purposely left out names. Hutto took off a number of years ago and it was with entry level subdivisions and it started to give Hutto a bad name. Since then some nicer subdivisions have sprouted up and I hope that does Hutto some good.

Hutto schools are terrible, especially for those who do not speak English well or have special needs that are not related to developmental disabilities. The transfer rate is high. The Middle School 6-7-8 had a superb teacher of ESL, but she left to supervise another adjacent district, and she clearly knew that the high school was inadequate. The high school now has an ESL teacher who took one course. Last year the response of the teacher was 'Do your best' and the material that the child was given was not appropriate for the stage of the student. If one is a cheer leader or a football player, one can do well. The policeman on duty last year was dismissed because he took pictures of a girl's breasts. Last year's 11th grade assistant principal has left.
New schools do not make a good school. Some of the problems are related to the tremendous growth of the area, and there were three stacks of files on the desk of one of the school administrators - in November -- for incoming students. Undoubtedly there are good people there, but they are hard to fiind. Much of it is related to the quality of teacher. When a child who has an IEP on record tells the teacher that there is a plan on file, the teacher makes no effort to see it and sometimes makes fun of the child.
Incoming students sometimes have difficulty in adapting to the school culture. Their solution is to separate the child from the class and send him to a school for the miscreants.
Perhaps there once was competence here when the school system was smaller. That does not apply now.
We've been in the schools, which look great, and we have talked with the counselors several years ago, who were appropriate, and concerned, but they have left the area.
