Default Reputable dealers buying scrap gold???

I thought we had a thread about this but I can't find it...may be in that parallel universe...

While digging through yet another unopened box of STUFF, I came across some gold chains(yes, I am THAT old) that were once in fashion but DW and I agree that they aren't likely to be worn again. Given the still high-ish price of gold, I might as well convert them into something useful. WAY too many 'dealers' offering to buy on CL...does any one have a trusted dealer--north side would be most convenient--who is purchasing gold at a fair price? Thx.

I'd try selling that on Ebay... I've bought jewelry off Ebay before but not CL.

My mom has been an independent diamond and gold broker in South Dakota for over 20 years. I sent a bunch of stuff to her and she in turn sold it to a group in Minneapolis. I don't know if this group buys direct or not. I think I remember saying they only bought from licensed jewelers. But you could try to find a reputable jeweler in Austin to see if they'd help you. Probably a smaller, local store would be more willing to help. They will probably ask for a fee for brokering the deal but you might get more going that route than just selling it to them directly.

Well...after some study, I found a business called Goldfellow(they are approved by the AARP...that many old folks can't be wrong) that purchases gold, silver and platinum. Not sure if I'll go that way but they are up front regarding pricing and seem to be legit. All done through FedEx and the net...built in insurance, etc.

Much of this 'jewelry' has been damaged and most likely would only be worth the actual metal value. DW had some old pieces she never wears so we might treat ourselves to something fun with the $. Guess this would be considered 'green' since we are recycling.
