Default I hate the department of public safety

Seriously.

I went in today for the second time because the FIRST time I went in I didn't have a social security card. Mind you, I'd called and asked what I needed to bring in and there was no mention of the card (it IS on their website, however, so really my bad). The horrible woman at the information desk informed me I needed the SS card and sent me on my way as rudely as possible. But I left shaking with anger with the way she treated me.

I found it, and I went back today. I brought everything I could imagine including (I thought) my all of my car's various papers. There was a little line and there was a super nice guy at the info desk helping everyone very cheerfully. "Oh good," I thought to myself, "'public safety b*tch' isn't here.'"

Right before I got to the head of the line SHE RELIEVED THE NICE INFO DESK GUY!

"Where's your car registration?" she asked me snidely. I looked through my papers and thought I found it, but it turns out it was my old registration. I later discovered I was never given registration papers... just the sticker.

"You need the registration papers for your car." she said.

"What if I don't have a car and I just want to get my driver's license to, like, drive a rental car?" I asked.

"Too bad. You just admitted you had a car. You'd be lying," she replied.

"What if I was lying before?" I asked, half jokingly.

"I know you weren't," she said, not amused.

I tried talking to her to ask why one would need their car's registration to get a driver's license. But only if you had a car. If you didn't, apparently you DON'T need one... it doesn't make sense AT ALL! Some people need them and some people don't?

And she totally blew me off as rudely as possible. I went out to my car and cried.

I hate this woman so much. I hope that she feels the need to make other people miserable because she is such a miserable person herself. I hope she goes home to a screaming baby, a sullen teenager, her 2 grown children who never call her except to ask for money, and a husband who cheats on her with her best friend.

Sorry for the rant. But I needed to rant, and I figured you'd understand. I feel a little better now. (I feel the need to point out that I am usually a fairly laid-back person. I rarely cry. I rarely loose my temper. I don't "hate" many people. Something about this terrible terrible woman just set off every button I have.)

Anyone else have a horrible experience with this awful woman or at the DPS in general? The one I went to was on North Lamar.

(the irony, of course, for me is that Texas makes you jump through crazy and irrational hoops to get a driver's license and yet Austin has the worst drivers I've ever seen anywhere!)

I was confused about why I needed to register my car first and I was totally going to act like I didnt have a car so I could just get it over with while i was already there. It makes no sense! Just go to a different dps that lady sounds miserable dont bother with her anymore, she's not worth getting upset over.

It does make absolutely no sense. When my wife went to get her license, I forgot her registration receipt at home. We had somebody go out and physically look at the sticker on the car and that was sufficient. If all you have is the sticker, either lie about having a car, or ask to have somebody come look at the inspection sticker. That should suffice.

Yeah, it sounds like it's just that employee that has a real problem. We got ours at the office in Georgetown and everyone there was very nice and accomodating.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, there was just something about that place... it was like hell on earth. No WONDER the woman was so b*tchy... having to work there all day. (the guy she relieved was super nice, though. I bet he would have come out to my car to verify registration)

It was the office on North Lamar. I couldn't lie because I'd already admitted that I had a car. And she wouldn't let me take that back. I was REALLY tempted to go back in 5 minutes later, tell her I didn't have a car, and have no idea of what she was talking about when she accused me of coming in earlier. "Must have been someone who looked like me!"

Why didn't I do that?! That would have ruled!

What sucks is that I start a new job on monday (actually, that DOESN'T suck, heh, that part rules) and I have no idea of when I can get to the DPS again!

Anyway, I appreciate all of your sympathies. I know I went a little overboard with the "I hope her husband cheats" 'n all, but it made me feel better to think about it.

Wow, I usually come out of DPS amazed at their politeness and efficiency! I always go the north lamar location. Haven't been in the last year. But I've always had a nice experience.

So sorry this happened to you. Twice too!
