SIMOUY is on a distinguished road
Default Planning To Move From Milwaukee, Wi, To Austin

We are a Uruguayan couple in their late 30s, planning to move from Milwaukee to Texas.

My husband has not developed a universitarian career, but has an interesting background in administrative jobs and as a professional photographer. In my case, I'm involved in the mass media.

We are very open minded to different cultures, and not that typical Latin American people. We have a good cultural level and embrace a strong will to definitely be part of the American society. Besides facing a very, very hard time with the weather in Milwaukee, we find that it's also extremely difficult to feel integrated and make friends... and believe me, we are very open!

We'd like to know

a. Is it easy to people of our profile to get easily adjusted to your culture/society?

b. Would it be easy for my husband to find a basic administrative job as a start being bilingual?

c. We'd like to live in a safe -but not aristocratic- neighborhood in Austin. Our renting budget is between 700 and 800 USD for a 2 bdr apt. Also, our will is to live in a place where stores are right at your hand, just around the corner, but with not so so much traffic. Which area would you recommend?

d. We like medium sized cities, with a lot of hip and interesting cultural life. We find Austin very attractive, but since it's as small as Milwaukee, we've been wondering if perhaps Houston is a better option as well. What are the differences between both and which do you think is more convenient?

Thanks in advance for your time and for your kind replies.

Hasta pronto!
