Austin Bound is on a distinguished road
Default Commuting from River Place or Bee Caves Area

My wife and I are moving to Austin in 2009 and I will be working downtown. We are focusing on either 1) River Place or 2) West Austin off Bee Caves Rd. (Senna Hills, Barton Creek West, etc.). Is the commute time to downtown about the same from these two options?

There are a lot of threads on commutes, but I can never seem to find concrete commute time info. I am flexible as to when I leave, and will probably plan on leaving around 7 am to avoid the worst of the traffic. Thoughts?

I live off Bee Caves and if you leave at 7 you should have no problem. You also have the option to take Loop 360 south to Mopac north and into downtown (via 1st or 5th) instead of driving through Westlake (it's actually easier and quicker even though it might be longer distance-wise). I don't work downtown, but driving time from Bee Cave to downtown is about 20 minutes in non-peak traffic.

Moonlady -- Thanks for the info. So when does the Bee Caves/360 intersection start to get backed up?

llkltk -- nope, sorry

I commute from there and it's not bad at all. Maybe 30 minutes or less to get downtown if you leave @ 7. If you leave any later than 7, it gets more and more backed up every 10 minutes.

It's a nice area to live, good luck.

Actually, Bee Cave itself backs up all the way from 360 back to River Hills Rd starting between 7:15 and 7:30. It normally takes me 5 mintues from the light at Cuernavaca/Bee Cave to 360 at 7 AM, but if I leave at 7:30, it can take up to 15 minutes to get to 360. It moves, just slowly. Once you get on 360 it's not too terrible getting into downtown. Afternoon/eveing traffic isn't that bad coming up 360 and west on Bee Caves. You can also take Lake Austin Blvd to Redbud Trail as an alternate evening route coming out of downtown.

River Place to downtown is easiliest done by 2222 to MoPac. It will depend on the time of day!..
15 miles can be done in 15 minutes or 45 depending on the traffic
I'm an RPer and I drive 2222 to MoPac in the am at about 8 and it is not bad! I go North once I hit MoPac and I do know that South bound can be slow!
