So a major public works project to promote and build bike lanes throughout the Austin metro area? I wouldn't mind that at all. I say take out a motor vehicle lane to do it.

Problem is, that is one of Austin's major downfalls. There aren't enough lanes to conatin all the traffic that's built up over the last several years. Austin didn't do a great job of planning for future traffic growth. They've made an attempt to rectify it with the toll roads, but the in town driving can still get really congested. I'm all for having bicyclists have their own private lane, but not at the expense of the already crowded roadways.

More traffic cops to ticket reckless drivers. A better beer selection at the supermarket. I second Trader Joes.

It would be nice to land at least one pro sports team, but I think San Antonio stands in our way in that regard.

A better highway/freeway system adequate for a metro area of this size would be a plus too. And I'm NOT talking about more roads you have to pay to use either!

Any team that comes to Austin or San Antonio will have to draw its fan base from both markets, so that means that if and when MLB, NHL and NFL come to their senses and allow for a team from each to come, they will come to whichever city provides them $$... and unfortunately, San Antonio loves to throw money at already rich team owners.

Anyway, the Spurs do have many fans in Austin and if I remember correctly, there were Austin football fans who decided to support a team other than the Longhorns by driving down to support the Saints when they played at the Alamodome after Hurricane Katrina.

On a separate note, I think many in Austin like that there is plenty of natural activities in which to partake in the Austin area and if you want the tourist stuff, San Antonio isn't too far and is the best for that type of stuff in the state.

I'm about to jump on the "No Trader Joe's" bandwagon simply because it seems like an addiction.

So why doesn't Austin have a Trader Joes? It strikes me as the sort of town that could support one quite easily.

It's not Austin's decision, it's TJ's. They don't franchise, so corporate has to decide to open a store there. It has expanded rapidly in the past few years but has not opted to go into TX yet.
