They have a couple of Trader Joe's up in the Cleveland area as well. We didn't shop there regularly - not because we didn't like it, but it wasn't close to us. My friend works there (him and his wife are major foodies) and just raves about the selections as do many folks that I know. I'm sure we would go there if it was here(and centrally located), as Whole Foods is definitely a "treat" - type place for us.

But I do like Central Market quite a bit.

Default What is Austin lacking besides a Trader Joe's?

Posing the question again to get a more sincere dialogue

How come you think people yearning for a Trader Joes is insincere? Maybe, for the most part, people in Austin feel that they have it all or that focusing on what isn't there is just a big buzz kill.

There's way more blue than Travis County

I yearn for a Bama pecan pie.

I've been to a Trader Joes - I was not impressed. Central Markup - a mighty fine selection of food. And I've also had an In-and-Out Burger. Sorry, but I think Hut's is better.

Look, you got 70-some responses on the first thread. It only veered towards Trader Joe's the last couple of pages. Threads will do that. People just shootin' the sh*t. You gotta hang in there. If people think of something that Austin "lacks", they'll post it. Also, this topic has been well tread, maybe people are just tired of thinking of negative things...after all, it is the Christmas season!

What else are you looking for?

The manager/wine guy at the Trader Joe's near me in NC said that the reason that Joe's has not moved into Texas is that they use "Two Buck Chuck" (now Three Buck Chuck) as a hook to draw people to the store. Wine regulations/taxes in Texas are such that they couldn't sell Chuck deeply discounted, so a big part of their business plan vanishes.

I like CM a lot, but will miss TJ's interesting and eclectic selection of reasonably priced food.
