What is Austin Lacking?
I saw this topic on the Dallas Forum, and wanted to pose the same to Austinites. Is there something major this city is lacking, that you believe would improve the quality of life, either funded publicly or privately?

good answer. You're saying you don't think Austin needs anything major then? Like a Veloway around the city, large zoo, etc.? I am not expecting the same answers as the Dallas forum.

I personally don't think Austin needs tourist attractions. Austin isn't a tourist town, it's a lifestyle town. I think that's why it's difficult trying to tell visitors what to see in Austin since there's really nothing to "see" but there's plenty to "experience".

An ocean, but I guess there's not much we can do about that. Pro sports, but the city isn't really large enough to support that. Better and larger museums. Walkability.

When I moved here from CA, I said the only things I missed were Ryan Seacrest on the radio and toilet seat covers in public bathrooms. Now, we have Ryan Seacrest...

My two pennies
.01 cents -
Lacks nice public parks for neighborhoods.
I am not talking 1 acre w/ one set of swings and a slide.
.02 cents -
Every little land that is avaliable instead that put up big ***** apartments. Everywhere around Austin all I see is apartments!
We lack good nice family parks. Only one that somewhat is worth a hoot is Zilker

In response to Achtung point about tourist attractions. The unfortunate truth is that people will move to Austin whether we provide the amenities and infrastructure for them or not. The "if we don't build it, they won't come" approach will leave this town between a rock and a hard place about 10-20 years from now. NY stopped the gratuitous development of sprawl with Central Park (tourist attraction - yikes!!), which did wonders for the citizens of that city. If the City of Austin can protect and provide something of value with the open land within the city, the future of Austin will not be vinyl village after vinyl village, etc. I personally think a large farming co-op in east or southeast austin would be a good start.
