I'd tell anyone in the current economy that if you're gainfully employed where you're at, stay there until the storm blows over.
We were lucky ones too in that my wife was able to land a good job down here while we were still living out of state. BTW, she's the breadwinner, so that was key that she land a job first. That said, she applied for quite a number of jobs she was well qualified for and never even got a response. So yes, it's definitely frustrating applying from out of state. I should also note that this was 2 years ago when the economic picture was much better.
Best of luck to you!

I agree with much of the above. Continue looking until at least one of you to get a job. Atlanta Hope (her username) recently did it. My husband and brothers all work in IT. Layoffs are hitting Austin hard or about to per their very connected sources.
FWIW, we just moved last week. We BOTH were looking for a job pretty hard core for about 8 months. I then found a job that seemed to be literally written for me. I'm senior and specialized. Got the job, but no relocation. My husband, in IT, was able to arrange a remote working deal with his old job for at least 6 months. We are TERRIFIED, his old job will end the arrangement before he finds something new as we haven't sold our old place yet. This market is pretty pitiful. While Austin is better than most, it is not immune.
Good luck!

Funny, Eugene and Salem were mentioned as bright spots in the economy in something I read early this year. Sounds like things are bad pretty much everywhere now, and absolutely no where to run.....

It was mentioned in those everpresent lists on the web of places to move to, believe it or not.....just goes to show how irrelevant those lists are....
