Manor TX - development
Hello forum users, this is my very first post. I am a 27 year old first time homebuyer and am getting ready to purchase my first home in Manor. I should hopefully being closing by the end of January. Manor is the only place in the Austin metro area where I could be reasonably close to the city of Austin because that's where I work and go to school. I wish that I could have afforded a place in northwest Austin, Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock, or Pflugerville, but the cost is way out of my budget. I was able to score a nice house in Manor for a cost in the 90k range. The same house anywhere in Austin would cost me at least $120k.
Now that I have decided to invest in Manor, I am really hoping that the proposed light rail and hwy 290 toll road will go through quickly to alleviate traffic and spur the local growth. I really want to see Manor cleaned up a bit and new retail developments implemented such as an HEB or Walmart at the very least. Villa Muse would have been a nice development to spur the Manor economy, but of course it has been cancelled for now. It would also be nice to see Manor participate in the national Main Street program to revitalize downtown. I really want my first house to be a good investment so that I can eventually make a profit and either move back to Austin, or enjoy the future prosperity of Manor. Is anyone aware of any new developments that might come to Manor in the near future? Thanks

Welcome to Manor! You probably won't get much of a response on any Manor issues on this forum. Manor doesn't seem to be the "in" place to live therefore gets overlooked. I bought a house in Manor a year ago and from a personal standpoint, like Manor very well. There is very easy access to North, Central and South Austin with very little traffic issues. It is truely a diverse, quite, friendly place to live. I don't think you will be disappointed.
I myself would love to have some developments here too, but have heard of nothing coming.....you may want to ask someone at the Manor Chamber of Commerce and they may could tell you the future of Manor"s development. I am looking forward to Manor flourishing one day and I think it will in time.

Manor is one of the areas that has been very hard by the housing issues. There is a major developer that has been out there for decades that has apparently up and sold all his property for a loss and ditched the market. This is based on what I have heard from a co-worker that lived out there, and he is currently also trying to sell his house and having a devil of a time.
Manor may develop over the years, but if you buy in there now, expect to be there for a pretty long haul...it is unlikely that there is going to be any kind of boom or great development in the next 5 years (imho)

There is a new movie studio going up around Bastrop. Saw the story on it on the news. It's not Villa Muse but a large project nonetheless. I'm in Hutto, not real far from Manor really. I think Manor will come into it's own in a few years. I guess we just have to get over this downturn, but it is a really great location.

Once the 290 toll road is built, it will likely stimulate some growth.
Rightly or wrongly, it does seem that anything east of I-35 has that "stigma".
Most importantly, just remember it's MAY-NOR!

But only to those who live West of 35 or to people who put stock in old rumors. Not to those of us who are already here or who didn't listen to the rumors.

Manor is not a bad place to live - well outside of Manor actually. I've lived here for nearly 15 years and although I am ready to go in to town to live - it's because I want to be close to my grandkids. Our house and land are wonderful and the people around us are great. It's too bad that people have such a negative outlook of Manor - and I hope that one of these days people will realize that it's only about 25-30 minutes from downtown (MLK & I-35) and about 25-30 to 290-I-35 as well. Plus with 130 and Parmer Lane you can get to just about anywhere you'd need to go pretty quick. I'd like to have a grocery store out here tho. Too bad that hasn't happened yet.....
