The music scene in Austin isn't really all that impressive actually. lol

I am hearing this more and more. The bands I like tend to play large venues (Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Kansas, etc.) and aren't part of the Austin music scene. I think the Austin music scene now is too-cool-for-school and highly judgmental of those of us whose tastes run along the more standard.

I think Austin's live music scene reputation was more well deserved 15 years ago when sixth street wasn't awash in frat boy vomit and shot bars...

Just cause its live doesn't make it good...

I agree with that. The city really needs to do things to promote live music vs. giving tax handouts to chain stores.

Cheap housing for musicians for example.

Zoning for bars that requires live music?

making it easier to hold music, film and art festivals?
