Default Most Affordable Apartments Near Downtown

Hey Everyone, My girlfriend and I visited Austin about a month ago and have decided to move there from Phoenix. We loved the city and were happy with everything we saw while we were there. We are looking to be able to ride our bikes just about everywhere if possible. We currently ride around Phoenix, but it's tough considered the city as a whole easily spreads 70 miles across and we always have to drive places. Just yesterday we road 14 miles one way to check out a cool bar we have always heard of.

Anyways, we are looking to live as close to downtown as possible while spending $800 or less on a studio or 1 bedroom apartment. We have been looking at a lot of apartments west of Campus but we are afraid it might be a little to...collegey (is that a word?). Also, we really likes the area near the ACC rio grande campus, which was somewhere around 15th and Rio Grande st if I recall?

So I was wondering if anyone that currently lives in Austin would have some recommended areas to seek out apartments? I would really appreciate any tips or ideas you might have.

Were looking to move at the end of April/Early May just to let you know.
