Need Austin Dining Out Tips
Will be there this weekend, staying in SoCo area. Any recommendations for reasonably priced and funky dining out spots? No Applebees. No Olive Garden, please.

Do you like Mexican? Polvos over on South First street. So good!
And really any place on South First is pretty darn good. Freddie's has great atmosphere and a great deck.

Polvos! It's right there near SoCo. Guero's has good margaritas & people watching outside, but the food is just average.
For Italian, Enoteca Vespaio is one of my favorites; it's not cheap, but cheaper than the adjacent Vespaio restaurant.
Azul Tequila is probably the best food and reasonably priced, but lacks the "funky" aspect as it is in a strip mall off a highway.

Second to Freddies. Shady Grove is also known for its Austin-Americana fare. Both in South Austin, I prefer Freddies.

Sazon on S Lamar can be pretty good(interior mexican). Habanera Cafe on Oltorf is good, cheap Tex-Mex. Lamberts downtown(a bit pricier but has some really tasty modern Texas fare). Huts is a good burger joint with a lot of character and atmosphere. Green Mesquite, Shady Grove are laid back choices with pretty cheap grub as well. Magnolia and Kerbey Lane are decent, 24-hour diners (I prefer Magnolia but they both have their virtues). For specialty tacos, Torchy's.
Austin has a lot of good, cheap restaurants.

For breakfast, Kerbey Lane on South Lamar. For coffee outdoors, Jo's Coffee on South Congress next to the Austin Motel. For cupcakes, Sugar Mama's Bakeshop on South 1st.
Sorry, I don't have a balanced diet.

Sugar Mama's is a dangerous place. We've set a strict "once-a-month only" visitation allowance.
