Is it ever going to rain again?
This is getting quite depressing:

I hear ya. I'm contemplating a rain dance, myself. The pastures are hurting. The creeks are drying up (even the one on our place that had water knee-deep on a cow at the end of the 4 year drought when we bought it).

Wash your car, wash your neighbor's cars, powerwash your decks, take an umbrella everywhere with you, and leave a suede jacket on the clothesline outside... then maybe, just maybe, it will rain again.
I have high hopes for this Monday, though. They say 20%, but I have a good feeling. I may need to plan a picnic just to be safe.

Has this happened before in Texas? Is this a cyclical thing?

From what I've read, this summer and the lack of rain will be as bad as last summer. Yes, the same last summer when we started having 100 degree days in May and had no real rainfall. The long term climatology data indicates our real rains won't occur until next winter, as they are predicting a stong El Nino.
We are experiencing feast or famine when it comes to rain. Right now: famine. This winter I suspect we'll say heavy rains and a lot of flooding.
Yesterday when I was flying home from San Diego, we flew over Lake Travis and you could start seeing the faint outline of some new "islands."

Where are the worst areas for flooding or other bad issues (foundation shifting, etc)...
How do the northern suburbs fare?

Ha! This happens in Texas. This is Texas. Drought = Texas. Drought = expensive water and water rationing. Be prepared.
