I would love to hear how your son's new school compares to the one he attended in WA.

We have two kids, ages 4 and 11, so education is weighing heavily on our minds. We moved from Austin when our oldest was 2, so I never really paid attention to the schools. Reading this forum is helping me get the lay of the land, for sure.

Thanks for sharing the story about the park, too -- I had a funky bad dream that we moved back to Austin, only to discover that all the kids there were mean. It's funny what you worry about as a parent!

Our experience in schools between WA and TX have been that both were very good. In WA, we lived in an area that had a lot of parent involvment and support of the school. Here the schools seem to be more self sufficient and have the materials they need. Not nearly the involvment that was in WA, except for sports which are much more important here. I've never seen so many huge high school stadiums before :-)

My kids are 4, 9, and 11. It is really nice to have real music programs, it is a great opportunity for the kids. My kids are in LISD but I would imagine that the other local districts are similiar.

My son attended Kiker and we had a wonderful experience. So far our school in the Issaquah School District (Sunny Hills Elementary) has also been outstanding as well. For us, I was more concerned about the Middle School/Highschool education. I think we are better off here than we would have been in our area in Austin but I can't judge that on any hard facts. I just try to be thankful for the fact that I can afford to live in an area with solid public schools no matter where I live. But of course schools are the main reason we chose to live where we did in the Seattle area. You have some good choices in Austin as well.
