Hello

I have to transfer to Austin for my job later this year. I am coming there for the first time later this month to look around the area. I am looking for a neighborhood that is kid friendly (9 yr old boy) but also is convenient - I don't want to have to drive all the time to go to the grocery store or movies, etc.

Would love some suggestions on places to check out while I am down there.

Thanks!

Where will you job be located (at least, in general)?
What price range are you looking at?

North Austin area - I am looking to spend up to $2K a month for the right place. Would also like to have a nice park for running, etc, near by if possible.

Thank you

Looking to buy or rent?
$2000/month with 20% down will get you ~$250,000 house (principle, interest, taxes, insurance, no PMI w/ 20%) or somewhere around there.

$2000/month will rent you some really nice places.

Anyway, if by North Austin you mean near I-35, RR and Pfluegerville at the most obvious choices. If you mean anything further west, you might consider Cedar Park. It is also possible, I think, to maybe find something in Walnut Creek or that area, too.

Rent at first, then would like to buy later if the neighborhood fits. When buy, would want to try and stay under 320 or so.

Opps, sorry, edited the message above .

Depending on where you are moving from, make sure you know about property taxes...probably ~2.5% - 2.7% in that area.

Depending on where in North Austin you're working, one option to consider the Elizabeth Milburn Park area of Cedar Park. Convenient to shopping, Leander school district, nice park, and quite a few houses for rent for well under your $2,000/month price range, and not too bad a drive to North Austin.
