Laura,

Copy and paste this link into your browser to see a thread started here by gigi. It contains lots of good information on what to see and do in Austin.

You will be very close (walking distance) to the bridge where the bats come out. Just before it starts to get dark, you will see tons of people lining up along the bridge or sitting in the grassy area right next to the bridge. Just as it gets dusk (the sun goes down), the bats come out. August is the perfect time to see them. You'll be amazed! Ask anyone at the hotel and they'll help you out if you still have questions.

It is located right by the San Jose Hotel that someone else mentioned. The San Jose is very nice and very hip, but I think it may be a little more than you intend to spend (yes, I've been reading your other posts!). You can also have breakfast at El Sol y La Luna, which is right next door to the Austin Motel. I've only been there for lunch but it's good Mexican food!

Yuppie!!!
yesterday I booked my room at Austin Motel!!!!
Many thanks for your information

About breakfast, you have told me of Jo's Coffee House.
Is that address near to the hotel? "1300 South Congress Avenue"

For dinner, do you reccomend Guero's or El Sol y La Luna?
Which is the best mexican food restaurant?

Thanks!
ciao
Laura

That's great Laura!

As for dinner, I think the food is better at El Sol but you might like the atmosphere better at Guero's. I would check them both out and just go with your gut feeling. If you want a really fun TexMex restaurant, drive to Chuy's on Barton Springs Road. It'll only take you about five minutes to drive there. Chuy's is always busy so be prepared for a wait unless you go off hours. Just to add to the list I'll also recommend Las Manitas Avenue Cafe for Mexican food. It's across the bridge (the one with the bats) on 211 Congress. It's an easy walk from your motel (about a mile).

By the way, there is a difference between Mexican and TexMex food, but I wouldn't worry about it - it's all good!

Oh, and Jo's Cafe is practically next door to your motel. If you want to hear some music, check out the Continental Club across the street.

Tex-Mex is cheesy and saucy. Mexican describes other styles more Interior to Mexico. More salsas, fruit, veggies, not as much cheese.
